Tips for Trade Show Attendees

The keys to success for trade show attendees are simple. It all boils down to how prepared you are before and during the exhibit. Take a look at our tips below and ensure you make the most of your next trade show.

Have a Plan of Attack

Plan Ahead

Know the schedule for the trade show before you even purchase tickets, set aside time in your schedule, or make travel arrangements. While many trade shows are a single day, many trade show exhibits last for several days or even weeks. In these cases, it is best to have a plan of attack ahead of time. Are you interested in hearing from guests who are speaking on opening day? Want to visit trade show booths that are only open for a specified time on certain days? Visit the event website and make note of the things you want to experience the most and plan your trip and schedule accordingly.

Get an Exhibitor Map

When the day of the trade show arrives, be sure to grab an exhibitor map to ensure you are able to see the booths, products and companies you are most interested in. At many large trade shows, you could spend several days perusing each and every booth. Regardless of your time allotment, it is in your best interest to grab a map and pick a path that enables you to visit the booths that are the most important to you.

Come Prepared

Be Prepared At Trade Shows

If you are truly interested in a product line, manufacturer, company or any other trade show exhibitor, do some research beforehand to ensure you have a list of important questions ready for the booth representative, so you can make the most of your time with them. Additionally, come prepared to pick up a lot of items along the way. Consider bringing a collapsible bag for samples and other freebies. Bring a notepad or organizer to jot down important notes. Better still, include a few folders inside to quickly organize any sales literature you acquire into categories of importance.

Insider Tip: Trade shows often plan ahead for those who need bags to carry samples, documents and other items they pick up throughout the show. They often have bags available for free, but beware! These items are typically first-come, first-serve, so don’t rely on this as an option if you plan to arrive any later than the very start of opening day.

Take Time for Extras

Raffle Ticket

Many times, trade show exhibitors offer freebies and other raffles to entice you to enter their booths and learn about their products or services. Take the time to fill out that raffle ticket. Drop that business card in the bowl. You never know. You may win a great prize worth hundreds or even thousands of dollars. A new car, anyone?

If you abide by our four keys to success for trade show attendees, you are sure to get everything you can out of your next trade show. With just a little bit of planning, you will be able to visit each and every booth that interests you, as well as take advantage of the many added benefits of trade show attendance such as contests, guest speakers and much more.
