If you’re looking to practice vocabulary and narrative creation, this lesson idea is ideal for you! The saying that a picture is worth a thousand words is definitely true when it comes to this lesson plan – this thought provoking and insightful technique can really get the creative juices flowing. This practice encourages both individual and collaborative efforts to figure out what is really happening in the photo. Students can write their ideas on the dry erase board, comparing and contrasting with their fellow classmates. Read more about this lesson idea here.

Grades 6-8

Necessary Supplies

Make learning and memorizing middle school science vocabulary a breeze with a variety of different games. Encourage individual and group collaboration with flashcards games, where students can print out their daily, weekly, or monthly vocabulary terms with definitions on the back, and terms on the front. Teachers can also play a fun “find your partner game” where students are given vocabulary words and they must find their fellow classmate with the correct definition. This fun activity allows for creative learning and breaks up those long school days. There are other games one can use in the classroom such as go fish, old maid, dominoes, and more. Grades 6-8

Necessary Supplies

We can learn a lot from our friends on the other side of the Atlantic – an English secondary teacher introduced this fun and thought provoking collaborative memory activity in her classroom. Students recreate equations in groups that are displayed on colored construction paper. They have 1 minute to remember the equations and pictures and then have to write them down on paper. Teachers can apply these to all different math topics especially geometry. This activity also encourages students to solve the solutions they were screened. Read more about the exercise here.

We want to wish all of the teachers and students out there a wonderful and insightful school year.
