1) Always consider your personal safety before beginning any cleaning task.

Need To Have: shoe coverings, scrubs, a mask, eye protection, and gloves. Need To Leave Behind: Jewelry, Smartphones, or any other personal items.

2) Inspect and clean your tools. (Yes, even your cleaning tools need to be clean!

Not only do well maintained tools enhance the look of your facility, but dirty tools may cause cross-transmission into other areas you may take them into.

3) Ensure you have the right tools for the job.

Make sure that you use the tools that were designed for your specific surfaces. Do you have curved surfaces? Corners?  Equipment or surfaces that are located at a higher-than-average height? There are tools designed to effectively clean all of these types of surfaces and more.

4) Prep everything you might need before starting your cleaning process.

This ensures efficiency and decreases the risk of cross-transmission from moving between clean and dirty areas.

5) Stay organized by using a cleaning checklist.

Using a checklist, like the Rubbermaid HYGEN™ Microfiber System checklist, can help you and your team efficiently move through tasks ensuring that no one can say "you missed a spot..."

6) Treat all linen and waste like it contains sharp objects or medical waste.

NEVER compress bags of waste or linens. You never know when it could be sharp or contaminated.

7) Pay close attention to warnings, markings and color-coding.

Cleaning equipment and waste-disposal materials are labeled with important information regarding it's contents and use. It is very important to treat each one properly.

8) No double dipping!

NEVER use the same cleaning cloth or mop for cleaning different surfaces. It is also important to not put any dirty cloth into a container of cleaning chemicals after it has been used.

9) Wash your hands every time you see them.

You should be using gloves while you are cleaning, but every time you remove, change, or put on a new pair of gloves, make sure to wash your hands.

10) To truly prevent infection, remove - don't just kill - microbes.

Killing bacteria with sprays is only one step in the infection preventing process. If you don't take the time to remove those microbes from your surfaces, they can become food sources for live pathogens and continue to spread. Rubbermaid HYGEN™ Microfiber products remove microbes from the surface, and this is the most critical step to winning the fight against infection!
